'You should have been a detective. If there's one thing the last year has proved, it's how good you are at finding things out. Not simple things. Hard things. Things that nobody is supposed to be able to find out. Things that are buried so deep nobody even thinks twice about them. The sort of things that turn people's lives inside out once they're exposed.'
Meet Tony Hill's most twisted adversary - a killer with a shopping list of victims, a killer unmoved by youth and innocence, a killer driven by the most perverted of desires. The murder and mutilation of teenager Jennifer Maidment is horrific enough on its own. But it's not long before Tony realises it's just the start of a brutal and ruthless campaign that's targeting an apparently unconnected group of young people.
Struggling with the newly awakened ghosts of his own past and desperate for distraction in his work, Tony battles to find the answers that will give him personal and professional satisfaction in his most testing investigation yet.

This was a rather upsetting serial murder setting and solve because the cases do involve innocent teens that are surrogate children through fertility clinics , therefore the devastation and horror for the parents and all concerned in solving this DCI Jordan case is extra heart wrenching. The team is stretched to the limits when Blake says no money for Dr. Tony Hill any longer! How will they solve this terrible case without any leads and no theories . Meanwhile, Tony Hill is occupied in Worcester , the home of his recently passed father he has known in name only. He is working a case there and sniffing around the estate that was left to him by a man he never knew and a man who never tried to know him . This is definitely one of my favorite Tony Hill and Carol Jordan novels from Val McDermid ! It is intellectually intriguing and emotionally heart wrenching until the very last word .Product details

Once again, Tony Hill and Carol Jordan have banded together to solve a seemingly unsolvable string of murders, with just the right amount of personal angst and self-discovery that makes this series so much fun to read. This story kept me turning the pages, could not put it down. Love the characters. Looking for more of these characters in Val McDermid books, I think I've read all the books already published.
Dark and gritty and so well written. Val McDermid creates characters who end up living inside your head. I'm binge-reading the entire Tony Hill/Carol Jordan series and can't seem to stop.
Ok, enough already! Will Tony and Carol ever get together ? I really enjoy this series. It's well written and interesting. But I am SO TIRED of being played with. I feel like this author is tempting me into the next book by suggesting at the end of each book that there will be a move foreword with T & C. It's getting OLD!
This is the 6th book in the Tony Hill/Carol Jordan series. This one primarily deals with internet stalking.
The internet stalking issue is a realistic threat that we hear of in the news and I am glad McDermod has researched this topic and brought it into focus in one of her books. What better way to do so than with using her master profiler, Tony Hill?
In this book, Jordan is dealing with a new boss who feels that cost containment is more important than using top talent to track down a serial killer. This comes at a critical time as teenagers are being killed and Jordan's team needs to find out why this is happening, and fast. To Jordan's dismay, she is forced to use new, inexperienced talent for profiling.
It also deals with Tony's discovery of his father, of whom he knew little, and the resolution of a cold case murder of a young wife and child.
This is definately a book worth reading. The plot is solid and the ending contains a bit of a surprise.
This is the sixth book in the Tony Hill/ Carol Jordan series. Each book stands alone, but it is so much more satisfactory to read them in order so that you have the ongoing story of the resident characters. In this book, Tony Hill is asked to go to Worcester to give advice on the killing of a teenager. This is the location of the house he has recently inherited and he decides to change his mind and go and see, it with unexpected results. Meanwhile, Carol Jordan, still in Bradfield, has a new chief who has put a veto on having Dr Hill in to help. She is then also faced with the murder of a teenager. Another excellent book in the series.
This is definitely one of my favorite Tony Hill and Carol Jordan novels from Val McDermid ! It is intellectually intriguing and emotionally heart wrenching until the very last word .
